RICHMOND, Va. - Virginir -- In honor of National Women-Owned Business Day, get to know the Superwoman behind DCA Virtual Business Support, Denise Cagan!
Before adding entrepreneur to her resume, Cagan was a QA Manager at a major beverage manufacturer. During her time there she began her first company, DiCi Services. But she hadn't originally planned to take up her business full-time. So, what led her to make this leap?
Cagan explained, "The honest truth of the matter is that despite being led to believe that as a woman, I could, and I'm using air quotes, write my own ticket in that particular industry. That really wasn't accurate."
In response, Cagan left the company and began her journey as a full-time entrepreneur. After growing DiCi Services for 10 years, she sold it and created a second and third company. One of those companies still stands, which is her current business, Denise Can Assist, Inc.
"When I had the cleaning company, I saw what busy people were needing, what they were lacking, where they could use some extra support and help," said Cagan.

Originally, the company started with the tagline 'Personal and Professional Assistance'. The personal assistance services took off quickly. However, Cagan recalls, "As we got into it, I discovered that really wasn't how I wanted to grow the business." Thus, DCA Virtual Business Support (https://dcavirtual.com/) was born – a rebranding of Denise Can Assist.
From 'Oh, your sister needs a job? Great; she's hired,' to a set hiring process that is tailored to finding the right hires to advance the company's goals, the company's operations have evolved into the high-quality services that DCA Virtual is well known for by its clients today.
Business owner is not the only hat that Cagan has added to her collection. She is also the host of the Nurture Small Business Podcast (https://dcavirtual.com/nurture-small-business/). The podcast shares small business growth ideas, survival strategies, and stories of how women entrepreneurs creatively nurture their businesses for success.

After thinking about her personal experience as a woman in the business world, she said, "I decided I wanted to shift and be an ally and support other women business owners. And that is how I chose to do it [the podcast]."
In Cagan's words, it is important to ally with women entrepreneurs and have days like National Women-Owned Business Day because, "We don't always understand that we aren't just an island and that this isn't just happening to us. It's important that we are not just an ally but collaborating and learning from one another."
With that said, on this National Women-Owned Business Day, let's not only celebrate the history of women's achievements but also actively contribute to making history for women.
