New 17-residence neighborhood adds traditional assisted living services to Orchard Ridge's continuum of care and expands opportunities for older adults to age with choice and independence
WINCHESTER, Va. - Virginir -- The Village Orchard Ridge—A National Lutheran Community is celebrating the latest enhancement to its service offerings with the opening of its new 17-residence Assisted Living Neighborhood in August 2022. Orchard Ridge is hosting an open house on Thursday, July 28 from 4-6 p.m. to kick off the celebrations and provide tours of the new neighborhood and model residences.
The new Assisted Living Neighborhood at Orchard Ridge provides older adults the perfect balance of freedom and support to live life on their terms. A wide range of amenities, round the clock support and a ready hand for tasks of daily living enable assisted living residents at Orchard Ridge to age with choice and receive support in the setting most appropriate to their individual needs. The new assisted living services are part of Orchard Ridge's integrated continuum of care that also encompasses in-home care, short-term rehabilitation, long term care and a secure memory care neighborhood for individuals diagnosed with moderate-to-advanced dementia.
Renovations to convert pre-existing independent living spaces at Orchard Ridge into the new Assisted Living Neighborhood began early in the first quarter of 2022. Orchard Ridge Executive Director John Loop says excitement has been building over these past months as the design for the new neighborhood has taken shape. "It's a great feeling to see all of our planning and preparation come to fruition," Loop says. "We believe we've created something quite exceptional here that provides an unparalleled level of support and the security of maintenance- and worry-free living to enhance older adults' quality of life."

The new Assisted Living Neighborhood will feature a central dining area complete with a juice and coffee bar and inviting common areas for visiting with family and enjoying new pastimes with friends. Its location on two wings of Orchard Ridge's Proclamation Place and Clocktower apartment buildings enables seamless integration of ConnectedLiving programming and connectivity with the adjacent independent living community.
National Lutheran Communities & Services' (NLCS') ConnectedLiving philosophy is the foundational approach for The Village at Orchard Ridge's Assisted Living Neighborhood as well as all aspects of programming and support across the entire community.
"We believe in helping older adults thrive through support services and person-centered engagement opportunities that nourish the mind, body and spirit," says NLCS President and Chief Executive Officer Cyndi Walters. "We form connections that lead to holistic well-being by helping older adults imagine, experience and engage in pursuits that fulfill their aspirations and make each day more meaningful. This provides greater choice in where and how individuals receive support, helping them live more independent and abundant lives."
Residents of Orchard Ridge's new Assisted Living Neighborhood will enjoy three chef-prepared meals daily; 24-hour nursing support; emergency monitoring and response; medication management; personal care; assistance with tasks of daily living; laundry, linen and housekeeping services included in the monthly fee, and much more. They also have access to Orchard Ridge's wide range of ConnectedLiving programming and amenities such as faith-related services and programs, fitness and wellness support, hair salon, recreational outings and engagement opportunities with new friends.
The Assisted Living Neighborhood apartments encompass a variety of spacious and accessible floor plans ranging in size from a studio apartment up to one bedroom/one bath plus den apartment models. All are beautifully appointed with high ceilings and large windows for a bright and spacious ambiance. The spacious one-bedroom and one-bedroom-plus-den floor plans all feature large bedrooms with walk-in closets, living/dining areas, private bathrooms, in-home laundry, kitchens and ample storage for residents' personal furnishings and treasures.
