Inaugural Conference to be held November 13-16, 2025 at The Sanctuary, Kiawah Island, SC.

KILMARNOCK, Va. - Virginir -- During Eczema Awareness Month in October, Health & Wellness Global Alliance founders Firas George Hougeir, MD, FAAD and Jonathan Weiss, MD, FAAD call on the dermatology community to recognize the burden of eczema and the need for early and effective treatment.

Atopic dermatitis (AD) affects up to 20% of children and up to 10% of adults, according to The Global Atopic Dermatitis Atlas 2022 Report. It is the most burdensome of all skin diseases and the 15th most burdensome of non-fatal diseases globally (based on disability-adjusted life years (DALYs)). Data recently presented at the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (EADV) Congress 2025 show that AD in adulthood appears to be linked with increased suicidal ideation.

The impact of eczematous conditions like chronic hand eczema (CHE) and allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) add to the worldwide burden of eczema.

"The evidence is clear. The impact of eczema can be substantial, and it is imperative that dermatologists implement effective treatments appropriate to the severity of the presentation," says Dr. Hougeir. "Across the US and around the world, patients and their families struggle with intense itch, excoriations, pain, and sleep disruptions. Thankfully, we in the United States have effective new topical and systemic treatments to support our patients. Globally, a number of investigational treatments show promise and could make their way to us and our patients."

Drs. Hougeir and Weiss say it is critical that prescribers adopt new therapeutics into practice and adapt treatment based on the latest global best practices.

"Eczema is common, and even though we see it in dermatology clinics every day, we continue to learn more about the disease," notes Dr. Weiss. "In just the past few years, we have come to better understand the pathogenesis of eczema and have seen approval of new treatments that target critical pathways. This allows us to treat eczema more efficiently and with favorable safety compared to many of the treatments we used traditionally."

The H&W Global Dermatology CME Conference (https://healthandwellnessalliance.org/agenda/), to be held November 12-16, 2025, will present international perspective on diagnosis and management of eczema, as well as a broad range of other dermatologic conditions. Beyond pharmacological advancements, discussion will include issues like supportive skincare, environmental exposures, the microbiome, and more. Agenda and faculty listings (https://healthandwellnessalliance.org/agenda/) are online.
