After stunning Alabama in the opener, Florida State's double-overtime loss to Virginia shows the Seminoles still have work to do in their climb back to national prominence.
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Virginir -- Florida State's early-season optimism took a heavy blow Friday night as the No. 8 Seminoles fell 46-38 in double overtime to Virginia. The loss is a sobering reminder that while FSU's upset of Alabama in Week 1 rekindled memories of the program's powerhouse days, the rebuild is far from complete.
Virginia quarterback Chandler Morris accounted for five total touchdowns, including the decisive 4-yard run and a two-point conversion in the second overtime. Florida State still had a chance to tie, but a dropped pass in the end zone and a desperation interception sealed the Seminoles' fate.

Head coach Mike Norvell admitted the team's slow start proved costly: "They started fast, took advantage of some of the mistakes we had early. We did not get off to the start that we needed to have. I was pleased with the way our guys responded, but we have to finish stronger."
The setback comes after FSU endured a 2-10 campaign in 2024, only to restore national confidence by stunning Alabama in the opener. Two subsequent blowout wins appeared to confirm the Seminoles were on the rise again. Instead, this ACC loss raises fresh doubts about whether the program is truly "back."
The Seminoles (3-1, 0-1 ACC) will try to regroup next week when they host rival Miami.
