AKRON, Ohio, Oct. 29, 2024 ~ FirstEnergy Corp. has announced the appointment of Karen McClendon as their new Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO), effective November 11th. In this role, McClendon will be responsible for leading the company's human capital strategy and ensuring it aligns with their vision of becoming a premier electric company.

McClendon brings with her over 30 years of experience in the field of human resources. She has a proven track record of developing solutions, delivering results, and fostering an inclusive workforce and work environment. Brian Tierney, FirstEnergy's President and CEO, expressed his confidence in McClendon's abilities, stating that she is a "resourceful and decisive leader" who will help advance the company's strategic initiatives.

Prior to joining FirstEnergy, McClendon served as the CHRO at Paychex, where she focused on enhancing the employee experience through competitive compensation and benefits structures. She also transformed the human resources function by utilizing technology for data-driven decision-making. Before Paychex, McClendon held various senior human resources positions at companies such as Comcast Corp., Aramark Corporation, Exelon Corporation, Zone Telecom, and Sesame Workshop.

McClendon holds a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from Old Dominion University and a Master of Business Administration degree from Temple University. She is also an active member of her community and has served on the boards of The Career Wardrobe, ACHIEVEability, and the Southern New Jersey Chamber of Commerce. Her dedication to excellence has been recognized multiple times with awards such as the Apex Employee Training Award and being named a woman of distinction by the Philadelphia Business Journal.
