NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Virginir -- Writer and director of the Pixar SparkShorts Float Bobby Rubio shares an inspriational video message with the participants of Unreasonable Kids College's Scholars Advance Program. The Scholars Advance program focuses on UN SDG 4: Quality Education to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education to help  students living in low socio-economic communities master reading and math.

Currently a Story Artist at Pixar and the creator/owner of several independent comics and intellectual properties, Bobby previously worked at Nickelodeon and Disney Animation. He graduated from California Institute of the Arts with his B.F.A. in Animation. Bobby has said his inspiration for Float comes from his son, who has autism. This story is also close to his heart as it is the first time that lead Fillipino-American characters are portrayed in a digital format. Bobby also has mentioned that "floating" is meant as a metaphor for viewers to interpret for themselves.

Bobby tells the Scholars to "keep studying, keep working hard, and follow your dreams."

Notes to the editor:

Pixar's
Float

In the SparkShort Float, a father discovers that his newborn son, Alex, has the ability to float. Concerned for what his neighbors might think, Dad ushers Alex inside the house. For years they stay in the house as much as possible while Dad tries to find ways to hide his son's abilities. One day at the playground, Alex escapes Dad's grasp and attempts to play with the other children. Once he sees the shock on their faces, Dad quickly grabs his son and yells, asking him why he can't be normal. Alex, now discouraged and saddened, grounds himself. Dad sees how special Alex's abilities truly are and encourages him to float once more. This film is the fourth in Pixar's "SparkShorts" program, created to discover new storytellers and storytelling techniques.
