PHOENIX, Feb. 21, 2024 ~ At the 64th Annual Convention of the International Franchise Association (IFA) in Phoenix, Arizona, franchise owner Angela Goodman was recognized as the 2023 Franchisee of the Year. Goodman, who owns Famous Toastery in Ashburn, Virginia, was honored for her outstanding performance and contributions to the franchise business model.
Goodman's journey to becoming a successful franchise owner began in 2016 when she left her corporate job at a Fortune 500 company to pursue her dream of owning a restaurant. After frequenting one of Famous Toastery's original locations as a guest, she decided to bring the brand to her new hometown in Northern Virginia. Despite having no prior experience in the restaurant industry, Goodman's dedication and hard work have made her a leader among the brand.
"Franchisees of the Year exemplify what franchising is all about – providing opportunity, serving others, and fulfilling the American Dream," said Matthew Haller, President and CEO of IFA. "We are proud to recognize Angela with the highest honor IFA awards to individual franchisees, and I have no doubt her work is changing lives and making a lasting community impact."

The Franchisee of the Year Award is given to leading franchise owners from IFA member brands who demonstrate exceptional performance and contributions to their communities. Nominated by their parent company, recipients are selected for their involvement in their communities, embodying an entrepreneurial spirit, fostering a strong and healthy culture with their workforce, and assisting fellow franchisees when needed.
Goodman's commitment to her community is evident through her efforts in building relationships with staff and customers alike. She has also helped grow Famous Toastery's reputation for "Famously Fresh" food in a welcoming atmosphere. Her success has not gone unnoticed by her peers at Won Life Brands – Famous Toastery's parent company.
"It is very exciting for the Won Life Brands family to have Angela of Famous Toastery and the Rosario family, who own and operate two Flour Power Studios in Georgia, awarded this prestigious honor," said Robert Maynard, Founder of Won Life Brands. "They are both role model franchisees for our brands and exemplify what it means to represent Won Life Brands within their communities."

The IFA represents over 800,000 franchised businesses across the United States, providing over 8.7 million direct jobs and generating over $850 billion in economic output. According to Oxford Economics, franchising on average provides higher wages and better benefits than non-franchised businesses, as well as greater entrepreneurial opportunities to minorities, women, veterans, and other underrepresented communities.
Goodman's success as a franchise owner not only benefits her personally but also contributes to the overall growth and success of the franchise industry. Her dedication to her community and commitment to upholding the values of Famous Toastery make her a deserving recipient of the Franchisee of the Year Award. As she continues to pay it forward by helping other franchisees, Goodman's impact will continue to be felt for years to come.
